Seventy years of innovation.

Presma, founded by the Canziani brothers at Gornate Olona, claim to be the first Italian company to have created a range of injection machines for sandwich moulding. Their BIC range now includes 20 different models of injection rotary machines for sandwich moulding with clamping forces from 30 to 600 tonnes.

The sandwich moulding technique overcomes warping, cracking, shrinkage and much of the stress found in conventionally moulded thick components.  The injection head device for this process has been patented by Presma.

Another process patented by Presma is the “piggy back” system for structural foam moulding.  Raw material is extruded into two cylinders and subsequently injected into the cavities of the mould through two or more nozzles. Presma also design and produce rotary machines with 4-5-6-8 and 8-10-18 stations for processing semi expanded materials and co-injection moulding machines with two component injection units with 14.000cm3 capacities.

Presma contains multiple divisions including a complete plant for the production of thermoplastic wine bottle corks – outputting 3000-8000 corks per hour and a footwear division that designs and produces rotary machines for the production of  leather covered heels, plastic heels and wedges, soles and accessories – not forgetting the production of shoe lasts.

Presma’s island for the production of multi-material handles is assisted by two robots to inject the materials directly onto the metal inserts.  In a fully automatic cycle, from the metal inserts feeding to the ejection of the handles, passing through a cooling station and a pad printing station, three different materials ensure a perfect adherence to the metallic insert, a coloured covering and then a third soft-touch, anti-skid material for the grip zone.

Presma decided to use Vero software for their varied design and production requirements five years ago and now make full use of VISI Modelling and VISI Mould within the design office, and VISI Machining 3D within the production department.

Giorgio Canziani commented “The step from 2D design to 3D modelling has certainly been an evolution in our production process, but only the true integration with CAD and CAM has allowed complete efficiency in our Technical Department.  This means more precision, a reduction in errors, time saving and ultimately an improvement in economic terms.”

Presma machines are sold in Europe, Asia, Americas and more recently in China and Japan.
